Once again, our community came together to create another fantastic Carnival!

First of all, we hope you all had a fantastic day! This year’s theme, ‘Pre-DISS-toric’, went down a real treat with participants and visitors. Thousands of you turned out on 9th June to support Diss Carnival and we’ve received lots of wonderful feedback… thank you! Hopefully you were spoilt for choice with the variety of community floats and walking groups in the procession followed by a fantastic line up of entertainment and over 50 stalls in the park afterwards. From dinosaur encounters and cavemen experiences, to the Fun Dog Show and a giant inflatable Fred Flintstone, there was something for everybody to enjoy.

Congratulations to winners of this year’s Best Community Float, Roydon Primary School and Best Walking Group, Twilights Twirlers Majorettes. The PG Cup was awarded to The Garden Project for the Most Flamboyant Entry. Well done to all!

The Window Dressing competition was also a great success with over 30 shops taking part by decorating their windows in this year’s theme: Pre-DISS-toric. We saw everything from Jurassic park scenes and cavemen to dinosaur eggs and characters made from wool! Thank you to everyone who made an effort with their shop displays to get into Carnival spirit… they certainly attracted lots of attention! We’d also like to congratulate the winning window, Diss Pie & Mash Shop along with runner ups, Diss Publishing and Spire Solicitors. The Best Charity Shop window was awarded to Feline Care.

We saw a huge amount of kindness in the lead up to the Carnival, with locals offering their support through taking part in the procession, sponsorship, raffle prizes, stalls and donations of all kinds. As I’m sure you will agree, Diss delighted us! Thank you to everyone that helped to make this event another success!

So, who forms the backbone of Carnival? The carnival committee is made up of a small group of volunteers who have worked selflessly since September to create this fantastic event. Without their enthusiasm, dedication and imagination, there simply wouldn’t be a Carnival. Natalie Thornton-Jones, Claire Keen, Sue Kiddie, Kimberley Jaynes, Ruth Ward, Sonia Browne, Sonya French and Fiona Wenman. Thank you to each and every one of you who put all the hours in, as volunteers, to create enjoyment for the whole community. If you would like to become a committee member or volunteer for Carnival 2020, please get in touch!

We’d love to hear your feedback and highlights from the day, along with any photos! Please send them in to towncouncil@diss.gov.uk or share them on our @DissCarnival Facebook page.

Carnival is completely FREE entry- and we’d like to keep it that way! If you would like to support the carnival (and future carnivals) financially, check out our variety of sponsorship packages with plenty of perks for your business in return!
